I LEFT YOU FOR SUMMER
hey, if you'd like to start by telling us who you are and what you do in I Left You For Summer?
My name is Stu, i sing backing vocals and play guitar.
How did the band get its name, was it something you decided at the end of spring?
Haha no it was not, the name means allot to our vocalist Rob, last summer he made big changes in his life and made sacrifices to get him to where he is today, the name basically relates back to that time and the rest of us thought it sounded pretty cool too!
Who are your biggest influences?
Thursday, Glassjaw, Trophy Scars, Underoath, Saosin. We all absolutely idolise these bands and we take great influence from them.
There are a lot of bands emerging at the minute doing a very similar thing, what would you seperates you from the rest of tha pack?
We have quite a unique blend of vocal techniques which stand out from the usual vocal styles in the genre, we have the powerful high end melodies from Rob in combination with his beefy screams, then i do my part at bringing a warmer thick vocal tone to the team. We are also a heavily motivated band, we haven't been together long and in such a short time we have produced and self released our first E.P. and are already back in the studio working on our debut album, all i can say is that our new material is much catchier and a step up from our current releases. We continuously try the and step out of the box and put our own stamp on things, we love the fact we can fall from a power-pop chorus straight into a thick beat-down, this is an irresistible combination!
So why should someone come to a show and check you out?
We feel that our live show is in someways our strongest area, we go absolutely insane and the crowd usually ends up on the stage and us on the floor! We think its important to show our fans how much we love to play our music and appreciate people being involved, we enjoy nothing more than rocking out with a crowd, its immense!
Your song names seem quite fun, such as "My mannequin can slam dance" and "Redrum is murder backwards." Is a good sense of humour something which is a key part of the band?
We love a good sense of humor, we have such a good relationship together and have so much fun doing what we do, the song names in someways just reflect that i suppose. When recording, practicing and playing shows we always have an ace time, but we always make sure we keep the band on track and continue to push forward.
What are your ambitions with I Left You For Summer?
"With no doubt we want to continue to build our fanbase and play much bigger venues, our music just keeps coming and we want people to listen and enjoy what we do. Our current main ambition is to sort out a tour and also to hopefully get some label attention.
"If you could get a tour spot with any band, past or present, who would you choose and why?"
Without a doubt its got to be Thursday. For me Geoff Rickly is the most amazing guy on the planet, the way he and the rest of the guys pour emotion onto the stage is unreal. I am not a fan of synchronized movement and Thursday blow this out the water and are the most epic live act ever to be seen, seriously to tour with them guys would be amazing.
"In the event of a zombie outbreak, what is your weapon of choice and why?"
Well for me its a difficult one, i am not a fan of big heavy guns or swords, therefore i would rather wear a motor cycle helmet and run at them all really fast... don't knock it until you have tried it!
Finally, what does the future hold for I Left You For Summer?
I Left You For Summer are going to get bigger and better, we will continue to do what we do best and make intense tunes and rock our butts off live!
